3k seedlings planted in Negros watershed area

The tree planting campaign dubbed as: Greening the environment the NIA way is in support to the National Irrigation Administration’s (NIA) advocacy in preserving the environment and a kick off activity for its 54th anniversary.

In Sitio Ilaya, Brgy. Banban Ayungon, the planting site is a watershed area of Tambulan, Negros Oriental and Hilabangan, Negros Occidental irrigation project and Banban River as its water source.

The nationwide simultaneous tree planting was held last May 9, 2017, a total of 3,000 seedlings were planted by 191 NIA employees from the two provinces in Negros Island Region.

Engr. Mario H. Sande, Regional Manager, said the event is a reflection of the agency’s participation and commitment to the national greening program of the country.

Being the agency’s advocacy to preserve all watershed areas within NIA irrigation systems. This is also an avenue to help ensure and promote the mitigating impact of climate change to the environment.
