NEGROS ISLAND REGION WELCOMES THE NEW NIA ADMINISTRATOR

BAGO CITY, Negros Occidental (Jan. 5) – Administrator Peter Tiu Laviña, National Irrigation Administration conducted his first visit to NIA’s youngest regional office.

Together with Regional Manager Mario H. Sande (NIRIO), Engr. Lorena B. Sioco, Officer-in-charge, Negros Occidental Irrigation Management (NOIMO) and Engr. Nestor M. Pastor, Head, Negros Oriental Satellite Office (NOSO), the newest Administrator Laviña inspected the NIR – Regional Office Building.

During his message with the NIA employees, Administrator Laviña reiterated his four point mission, (1) in fulfilling the administration’s campaign on free irrigation service fee (ISF) (2) implement more irrigation projects (3) support the drive for rice self-sufficiency (4) harness Hydro power industry to light up rural homes.

The newly organized Negros Island Region Confederation of Irrigator’s Association (NIRCIA) farmer members with the presence of Hon. Nicolas M. Yulo, Mayor of Bago City were also given a chance to have a dialogue with the Administrator.

He said that implementing the free irrigation service fee (ISF) is a big challenge and it is important to take a shared responsibility in the operation of each irrigation system.
